Kindergarten Weekly October 25, 2019

GR Helpers

Former St. Pius students, Anela and Angela, came to help with some things in our classroom today!
Thanks to my former students for all of their help!
They have grown into wonderful, joyful missionaries!

Pumpkin Week

We had a fun week working with PUMPKINS!
We touched the inside and the outside, counted the lines and counted the seeds.

Sometimes it's necessary to have class in the HALLWAY!
We hung all of the pumpkin posters in the hallway and discussed the differences in the pumpkins.
The students were surprised (as was I) that our medium pumpkin had more seeds than our large pumpkin!

Each student explored their own pumpkin last week in the Science lab.
Today in the lab, they counted the seeds in their own pumpkin.
We sorted the seeds into piles of 10, but noone finished counting all of them.
We did compare the pile of seeds from our pumpkin to what we remembered the large pumpkin to have, and decided that the small pumpkin had less seeds.

Gavin didn't like touching the guts!

Kindergarten Weekly - 10/18/19

Reading Centers

Some days, we do Reading Centers in our classroom.
Each group of students works at a reading center for a certain amount of time.
The reading centers reinforce the concepts we have been working on in reading class.

These students are finding the beginning sound to an object and putting the acorn with that sound together.

These students are rolling the dice and finding the paint splat with the beginning sound on it and putting a splot dot on it.

These students are 'reading' a familiar text ~ the memorization of this familiar text is the beginning of reading!

These students are putting a plastic dog together and reading the beginning, middle and ending sound on the dog.

These students are rolling letter dice and putting the three letters together to form a word, then writing the word on the dry erase board.

Science Lab - Individual Pumpkin Exploration

We did similar centers with pumpkins today that we did with apples 2 weeks ago.
Thank you to the 4th graders for helping us again!
