October, 2010

We have been very busy in Kindergarten!

We've learned the sounds and gestures for 11 of the letters of the alphabet and how to write them! We love the games we play in our new reading series FAST! Especially "London Bridge"!

We've practiced the numbers through 5 ~ counting, writing, comparing more and less!

We worked on a fun unit in Religion and Science ~ the Five Senses! Did you know that God gave us our 5 senses? We ended the unit by using an air popper to pop popcorn, we heard it, felt it, smelled it, saw it pop, and tasted it~ what fun!

In Social Studies, we have been discussing fire safety, practiced several fire drills, and practiced several tornado drills! We enjoyed discussing Columbus Day and even got to watch the 2nd graders perform a play about Christopher Columbus!

We are now getting ready for Halloween Week! Watch for some pictures next week!

September

We have had a very busy month!

We have been working with the letters of the alphabet in our new reading program, FAST! We got our new magnet letter boards and have been working with them daily! The students are beginning to learn to make three letter short vowel words and they love it! It is so fun to see them learning the sounds of the letters and how to put them together to make words!

Each day we practice writing the letter that we discussed. We are practicing touching the top line and the bottom line, and forming the letter correctly.

In math, we have been learning how to make a graph and to do simple 1,2 and 1,2,3 patterns! I think their favorite activity was making patterns with stamps!

In religion, we have been discussing that God created the earth and all on it, people and especially ME!! And that God made each of us different! And so very special!

We attended the Farewell to Summer Picnic on Wednesday. It was fun to eat a picnic lunch with our friends! Thank you to the St. Pius Mens Club for the lunch, and to Mrs. Lorenc for the fun games afterward!

Today was our annual JOG-A-THON! The students had so much fun! And another picnic lunch! We are getting spoiled!
