We used games from the Word Work Shelf today. Word work games are games that reinforce the sounds of the letters, and letter recognition. Later in the school year, the games will reinforce short vowel words and sight words. The students love to use these games and they help make learning fun for them.

Thinking Stations
We used our "Thinking Stations" for the first time today!
Thinking stations help me see exactly what each child knows because they can't look at another child's paper or desk. Today I wanted to assess the color words red, yellow and blue.

Show and Tell
We had our first show and tell time today. The students stand in front of their friends and tell them what color their show and tell is, what size it is, and what is something special about it.
They then call on 2 friends to guess what is is that they brought. Noah is calling on 2 friends in this picture!
Then they show their friends what they brought and tell us the beginning sound of the item.
When all have had a turn to give clues and show their item, the students get to play with and look at the different items brought!

Science Lab - Gummy worms vs. Earth worms
First we observed gummy words and used 4 of our senses to describe them.
Then, we examined earth worms and again used 4 of our senses to describe them.
Some students only used 3 senses, several refused to touch them.
Our chart of information dictated by the students and written by Mrs. Tucker.
