Baptism Retreat

Today we had a Religion Retreat about Baptism.
This is a subject that is discussed often in Kindergarten.
We began by listening to music and watching a video of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus.

We then closed our eyes and reflected on what we had seen.

We also listened to one of our favorite songs, Go Light the Word, by Chris Rice.
Then we discussed how we can be a light in the world, not just our home or school,
but in the whole world!

We went into the gym for the next part of our retreat.

We laid down and listened to the sound of water.
We imagined that we were floating on water.

We each received a post card and drew and wrote about a time when we enjoyed being in the water.
On the back of the post card, we drew Jesus being baptized.

We gathered in a circle to share our postcards with our classmates.
We will also use them to share with our families at home, we are evangelists!

We ended this time in the gym by flying as doves just like the Holy Spirit!

We went into the center room and did different activities about baptism.
We made Good Deed bracelets, each bead represents a part of prayer.
We practiced writing different words that have to do with Baptism.

We used different religious figures to act out stories.

We decorated the top part of our mobile with stickers.

We colored and cut out the bottom pieces of our mobile with shapes representing Baptism.

We used pom poms to decorate a cross.

We ended our morning by looking at and learning what the different color beads represent on our bracelet.

Science Lab - Building shapes

In the Science Lab today, we built 2D and 3D shapes using marshmallows and toothpicks!
This was a nice cross curricular stem activity since we are studying these shapes in Math class, too!

We began with some easy shapes!

Some were a little trickier than others!

The students brought home their own creation that they built using 10 marshmallows and as many toothpicks as they needed!
